Abstract

The paper dwells on comorbidity of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and primary headaches, including tension-type headaches and migraine, in children and adolescents. As many patients with ADHD are predisposed to tension-type headaches (due to stressful events, comorbid anxiety disorders and problems with school education), we look at the clinical manifestations, pathogenesis and treatment options for tension-type headaches. Preventive therapy of tension-type headaches includes non-pharmaceutical approaches and drug therapy. When it comes to pharmacotherapy, medications with multimodal action (such as combining anxiolytic and nootropic effects) are preferable.
