Abstract

The paper studied aggressive behaviour in primary school children aged 10–12 years with mild intellectual disability. We have revealed significant differences as compared to children with normal intelligence. Primary school children with intellectual disability showed more pronounced symptoms of aggressive behaviour than those with normal intellectual development. Children with intellectual disabilities are lagging behind in their ability to regulate negative emotions. Conscious motivation against aggressive manifestations is significantly reduced. Children with intellectual disabilities are more likely to have primitive manifestations of negative emotions than their normally developing peers. Thus, it was confirmed that volitional control of emotions in children with intellectual disabilities is underdeveloped.
